Tread carefully. Doctors are beginning to sound the alarms. Most of this is due to social contagion. The hormonal treatment is quite dangerous. http://www.drlaidlaw.com/site/gender-sanity/press-releases/JCEM.html
Social contagion has very little support in research and the doctors who wrote this are endocrinologists rather than psychologists. They cite erroneous statistics for desisters of gender dysphoria. There are acknowledged risks of hormone treatment, which is the only think the authors are qualified to comment on.
Trans rights activists are not allowing research into social contagion. Simply looking at the increase in numbers of teenage girls seeking treatment suggests it’s a possible explanation that should be looked at. The narrative around puberty blockers is that they are completely safe and without consequences, which is just not true. You can look at the experiences of women who took Lupron for precocious puberty for a sampling of the potential problems. The lawsuits from this in the years to come will be epic.
The one research project into social contagion was very poorly done and doesn't seem worth repeating. There are a lot of scare tactics about what "gender-affirmative" really means. There are ways to do research on the issue that don't involve harmful denial of their identities. I agree that there may more risks to Lupron than has been presented and I wish that heterodox endocrinologists would stick to that issue, since that is what they actually qualified to talk about.
