People are giving OP grief, but I've wondered this sometimes too. Drivers definitely don't treat a painted "stop" the same as a stop sign. At my local strip mall, there's a painted stop in front of every store. No one stops unless there are pedestrians (which seems fine to me).
Thank you! Where I am even more is it you treat it as ALL WAY Stop or not. Meaning people with red regular stop sign have to give way to cars at either end of ----. Or, three way stop?
If there is also a stop sign, consult the stop sign for guidance on this issue.
So, given that STOP sign says nothing that means cars at the end have to let everyone else go? Correct?
Not sure what you mean by “at the end” but if there is a stop sign with no “3-way,” “4-way” etc. underneath you have to stop until it is clear for you to go. No one else will stop for you. I’m not sure what’s hard about this. Even at a t-stop with ZERO markings, much less one with TWO, you don’t go unless it’s clear. When your road is the one that’s ending, there’s no way that anyone needs to give you the right of way.
You are right about what I mean. At the end of I, as you say, t-stop, their street is at the end. Either go left of right. Sorry English is not my first language. The reason I asked is that I stopped, on the "main" road to the right of t-stop, then proceeded, person at t-stop(with red Stop Sign with nothing on it) went at me, then honked, cursed, and made finger gestures at me. As I am from Europe, I thought maybe I was wrong.
Who reached the intersection first? If it was the other car, he had the right of way.
Even with them being at the end to t-stop? With full on large red stop sign, without anything written? And me, having only white letters stop on the road? That is what I am asking? I had no regular stop sign. I am not saying I am right, I would like to find out what is the legal way for this situation. This is on my way to the gym, so now I am curious. In the past, I had people at the t-stop wave me to go, when I waited.
