I have a cat, and a 1-bedroom apartment. The bathroom is too small for a litter box, so its in the corner of the living room behind a little folding screen with a plant in front of it (so its well hidden but still in the main living area). I am SO PARANOID about ‘cat smell’. I scoop every day in the morning before work, and ALWAYS before any guests come over. I also use a disposable cat litter pan, as her main cat pan. It sounds weird, but its this cardboard type that come in packs of three on Amazon. Every couple weeks I throw it out and replace. I feel it’s more sanitary this way and I’m not stuck scrubbing a nasty cat pan in my kitchen sink. I have asked guests, my mom, fiancé, and sister (who would 100% be honest) if they can smell anything and they all say no. I use Arm&Hammer ‘double duty’ litter. I’m just sharing this in case anyone needs advice! I have a friend with three cats. They keep three litter boxes in their spare bathroom. Oh my god..... it’s disgusting. It reeks. I know they have three cats so it’s going to be a lot, but she doesn’t clean them often. We stayed there once for a weekend and right when we arrived I had to use the bathroom and the cat pans were covered in turds.. they looked like minefields. In my opinion, a general rule of thumb would be to ALWAYS SCOOP right before guests arrive.
