Expectations are planned disappointment. Why not make it your goal to start eating healthy and exercising so you will already be on track come New Year's, and you won't have gained any more weight over the holidays? Making that your goal rather than a number on the scale puts your success totally in your control.
My goal is actually to take off some weight first and then start exercising. I actually enjoy exercising but I have found that it spikes my hunger and I wind up eating back my calories. I plan to concentrate on weight first and then when I get the first 15 or 20 pounds lost, I'll start exercising. Or such is the plan. I am focusing now on improving my diet, eating healthier and creating a calorie deficit. I managed to get through Thanksgiving w/o doing too much damage.
Why wait? Start moving your body in some way every day now. Everything else is just delaying and making excuses. Start off with something easy and make it a habit. Stop snacking between meals and eating or drinking calories after dinner.
