Some sort of co-ed sport/league like bowling, running group, tennis, volleyball, pickle ball etc. The hobby becomes a way to have social time set aside and likely the other folks are either without kids or prioritize having time away from the kids for that hobby. Also if you have a pet, you are likely to get to know your neighbors better. It may not translate into social plans but it is a start of building a network where you are. I know you mentioned synagogue, is there a couples class thru your place of worship?
This. My husband and I moved to the burbs pre-kids and were involved in lots of activities (mainly around social dancing, which was our "thing"). We found new places to go and new people to hang out with through meetup.com--not for the sake of meeting people but for the sake of activities that interested us. The people were a side effect.
Curious about social dancing. I do it with my wife as well and we are in Rockville area. What kind of social dancing?
