At SGF we had three HCG tests every other day (excluding weekend) starting at 14 DPIUI.  Then an ultrasound at 6.5 weeks.  One possible reason for multiple blood tests is to screen for a possible ectopic pregnancy (maybe then do the ultrasound sooner rather than later).

Or it could just be to make more money.  SGF initially wanted me to come in for a second ultrasound at 8 weeks even though everything looked "perfect", so no real reason not to release us back to my OB. Fortunately my nurse knew my insurance would not cover the 2nd ultrasound and had me cancel it.[/quote]

Original PP back again.. Three blood tests make sense for an IVF where there is no corpus luteum and progesterone levels might need to be adjusted. But IUI? It’s an hour and a half of my day and more needle sticks. What would they even do with an unlikely bad third blood test? Order a fourth before an ultrasound to confirm it’s going sour? Yeah I agree it's probably unnecessary.  It wasn't such a big deal for me, since I work in Rockville.  I wonder what they'd say if you told them you can't do the blood draw (say it's a work trip for example).

One other thing to bear in mind for everyone with BFPs is if you have a thyroid issue, make sure to have your OB check your levels ASAP.  My TSH shot up to over 5 by 5 weeks and it is supposed to be kept under 2.  I know this because the weekend after my first positive blood test I started reading about the importance of adjusting thyroid meds immediately after a BFP and I promptly emailed my OB who ordered the labs.  SGF never mentioned testing TSH despite knowing I am hypothyroid.  [/quote]

NP here. I got pregnant with clomid and timed intercourse when I started surging on my own and SG had me skip the trigger. They wanted a fourth beta! I started at 32 and then my numbers tripled each time. You just tell them no. With my daughter my beta started at 48. I just make low amounts of hcg but still qualify as normal. Even at my first trimester ultrasound at 13 weeks, my hcg was 15,000 and normal started at 13,000 all the way up to 200,000 according to the reference guide. I’m now 16 weeks tomorrow, we’ve seen an active baby boy (good NIPT Results) with a heartbeat of 155-160. Not everyone has off the charts hcg levels. I told SG I love 1.5 hrs away and have a crazy schedule. I cannot keep coming in for betas.[/quote]
