We did super Y last year and get the email blast. I guess they were going to merge with SYA at one point and discussions fell through, I feel bad for the families that are caught in the middle of this transaction. My neighbor didn't make the cut with SYA and CYA took him without a tryout, that's the first sign of a club in desperate times.
These stories are always funny. They are always riddled with "my neighbor" or "a good friend of mine" said. Never first hand knowledge. Also, since no CYA/SYA merger seems to be happening there is no reason to feel bad for the families caught in the middle. CYA has several teams per age group. Taking a kid "sight unseen" does not equate either a struggling team or player placement. Sometimes kids are taken on well after tryouts based on both room and the demonstrated soccer resume provided by the parent. To play on a mid level NCSL team does not require an extensive tryout and evaluation. And, SYA's rosters may simply be maxed to their comfort level and are just unwilling to take on a new player at this point. Neither of which speaks to the ability of the player to not actually make a SYA roster but more to the space available for the player. CYA Soccer is fine and is part of a overall huge sport program. They are not in desperate times.
