I was going to say the same — having had to count pennies before, learning to cook more items really helps and hummus is a great recipe to master because it is both more delicious and way cheaper if you make it yourself.  Good luck![/quote]

This is only true if you don’t have a processor (or blender) or don’t have olive oil. Otherwise even the ingredients are cheaper. Hummus at the store is stupid expensive.

Which is why it’s one of those things that makes me feel good/like I’m not deprived even when I’m broke. The other thing is gravlax, which can also be made insanely cheaply as long as you have time, a fridge, and a very sharp knife. [/quote]
