After the penalty kick, the Colombian player were out of control. He should have called the captain over and waved off the other players. If any of those player continued, the cards should have been give out liberally. This is where the game was out of control. Colombia lost my support at that point.
What exactly did they do that was so harsh? The head butt? I agree it is a carded offense but the English player was hit on his chin and he exaggerated it by covering his eyes/ face. Everyone says the Colombians were dirty but few point out what exactly was dirty? England were just as dirty. There is a double standard, even on the Fox broadcast, when English players did anything it was called gamesmanship, when a Colombian did, it is was dirty. Also if you watch the Kane PK call, Gieger actually pushes Kane when he tried to get passed Sanchez.
No. Geiger should have issues a least three cards. Colombians were trying to intimidate and distract Geiger as they crowded around him. Maybe one warning, one yellow, the next a red and another red after that. Colombia was a disgrace.
You don't watch a lot of the game do you? Be it wrong as it is, everyone does it. Colombia isn't the only team do this. The English team would have done the same. So piss off with your "Colombia was a disgrace comment". Geiger is the disgrace.
I watched it. Colombia was disgraceful. They should be banned from international play. The players and country came off as arrogant assholes. Glad they are out and hope to never see “Colombia Soccer” again.
There was one play the entire game that was forceful enough to warrant a red card, and it was when Young stamped his cleat all over Barrios’ shin. When that happened, Geiger somehow called the foul against Barrios, because Young threw himself on the ground. Kane ran into Sanchez first before Sanchez pulled him down. Trippier blatantly threw himself on the floor when he wasn’t touched at all by Muriel. Pickford intentionally delayed kick takers during the shootout. Colombia’s collective attitude was bad, and they psyched themselves out from playing to their strengths, but first of all, England were no saints by any means. Second of all, banned from international play? Get a grip on yourself. Clearly you have some bias against Colombia going into the argument that goes beyond a sporting level. It’s the knockout rounds, people get heated. You know what’s really bad? Look up the Battle of Berne or the Battle of Santiago. That was bad.
Great post. A post that gives actual examples.
+1 Come on Croatia! Let's send them home!
