OP here, He didn't ask for it, but I would let him keep that money, yeah that is what works for us (we both kept what we had before we got married, that is what works for us), no complaint here, my point was it doesn't make the new car cheaper and he doesn't care about selling it anyway. Actually, that isn't true.  The question was should they buy a second car.  OP never suggested that they'd sell the first, and specifically indicated they didn't want to.
