I never said "oh I can only afford this trip because I'm using someone else's miles" or "this flight was cheap because it took 4 connections" - that would have been even more awkward.

As for vacation time, I never took off a month at a time but I also banked those days carefully. I didn't take off days "just because", I worked holidays and weekends to earn an extra day off, I planned trips near long weekends to save days, and trips weren't always a full week, so that I could bank days for trips that needed to be longer.
