Does the middle school drama never end? If you want to hang out with them, do it. If not, don’t. Personally, I like everyone and would probably be friends with both groups. I don’t participate in gossip so if anyone starts gossiping, I just change the subject.
+1 There is an occasional "stuck in middle school", socially stunted mom almost everywhere. Everyone knows who it is, trust me. OP, avoid the drama, and stay out of it. If you must hang out with the drama prone mom, make sure she knows that you do not partake in gossip and drama. Shut it down right away, ie: "wow, I know (another mom mentioned, in attempt to bait gossip) and she is really nice, I've never had a problem with her. (Say something positive and neutral about subject, here. Ex:) Not only is she kind and sweet, she is quite accomplished, in her own right!" Done. If you partake/take drama mom's bait, it is only a matter of time before you are on drama mom's radar. FWIW, I have known moms who stay friends with the "drama mom" - thinking that they will avoid drama, but that doesn't happen, that is how drama moms operate, by default - they need gossip and drama, that is how they get by in life. Not a good/productive/positive way for most of us to live, but we all know who that troubled mom is. I have seen that kind of antisocial behavior toward nice mom by socially stunted mom, when the socially stunted mom doesn't even know and has not talked to the nice mom - but somehow finds her a threat ie: nice mom makes socially stunted look bad, just by existing. The nice mom simply has a lot more going for her in life, that's all (while not perfect, she knows how to deal). That is socially stunted mom's problem, OP, not yours. People are not stupid, they know that socially stunted mom has issues. Find the nice truly people (hint: not the one who says she is a "good person"), OP.
