We are focusing on race as being an alleged benefit but being male applying to a school that is tilted toward female, applying to a mid-west school  when you are east coast, having connected family, having an underrepresented major, first generation college, winning a major academic or athletic competition, the list goes on.  And even if you think you have an edge, there could be another 100 kids with the exact same edge and the school is only going to take x number.  I try to emphasize with my kids to put in the work so you can have more options but realize there is more than one path that leads to the same place.  There isn’t one high school that is going to guarantee a certain top college.[/quote]
