But it's revenue for the camera companies, not even the city government. That's the real rub. City government gets so little of every ticket. I have a problem with speed cameras because I think it's an inherently governmental function (public safety) and that a company shouldn't be profiting off it. [/quote]

Do you have a citation on this, specific to DC?

In DC the ticket payment system is run directly by the DC Government so not sure where/how an outside company is taking its cut.

It's strictly about revenue generation, not safety. DC has been caught repeatedly on this.
