S&M isn't the theme of a rom-com, op.
Did you watch the Maher segment, Dummy? He discusses 50 Shades then moves on to go through the 3 main themes of all Rom Coms. He also manages to include what most consider a sexy scene from Rocky.
Wow, you're mature. Maher is not a particularly insightful or funny person for that matter. Movies of all kinds follow the same plot structure. This is common knowledge even if you and bill mahar don't realize it. 50 shades is fantasy and not particularly good fantasy: https://www.storymastery.com/story/screenplay-structure-five-key-turning-points-successful-scripts/
1. S&M isn't romance; it's a sexual fetish. 2. S&M involves consent. 3. Sexual harassment is only confusing to self absorbed, smarmy, creepy individuals like Harvey Weinstein, Bill O'Reilly, and apparently Bill Mahar. What's your point?

I don't think you get it. Truly. Maher's premier is basically this: "How wacky is it that 50 Shades is far and away the most popular movie thanks to female moviegoers at the same time women are seemingly fired up about the MeToo movement?" It's odd...and probably worth a bit of introspection and reflection. And yes, he/we get that 50 Shades isn't a Rom Com. Think about it this way: he's discussing several different and distinct movie genres in the segment. Oh vey. And no, I'm not fired up nor angry. I'm not rabidly #MeToo. I actually think it's kinda crappy how Reese and Eva seemingly coopted the movement launched by Rose and other victims who were courageous enough to name names rather than brand it and allude to abuse as a means of self-promotion. Bottom line: I think Maher's segment was good. It's okay if you disagree.
