I agree with PP who recommended taking the class if the kid is one who won't need anything beyond College Algebra when she gets to college.  My D actually had experience with both the regular pre-calc class in school and the online version (long story).  The online version is much easier, there is little homework (10 problems due each weekend), and she did not cheat on her timed quizzes and unit tests. (There would have been questions if there was a big difference between those grades and the midterm and final grades). Some of the homework problems were difficult, but the material that was on the test was typically very basic (it had to be because they didn't cover it in great detail).  It didn't seem like she spent a lot of time on it.

However, she didn't take it as an 8th class.  She had 6 classes in school and left school early every other day.
