There are many varieties that have good cold hardiness (and because its such a trendy plant you can find many of these locally now AND it is satisfying to have your crop but these are huge, ungainly shrubs/trees. I have trained them flat against walls, placed them in tucked away corners but for the most part - unless they are your particular passion - get from the farmers markets or put out a request on your neighborhood listserve in mid-to late summer.
