It’s all been different depending on the club and coach.  But ask realistic questions,  they should be able to tell you reasonable answers.

If you are already on a club team and looking for another opportunity, definitely understand the ramifications that a coach may or may not want select a kid in a return the season after if they found the grass wasn’t greener.

I’m kind of split of how to approach a coach about going to training days elsewhere or tryouts because of the response. I’d guess word gets back to other parents/kids/coaches due to it being kind of a “small” world. I think it depends on the previous relationship, how the argument is framed and the ego of the coach.

I do recall from third hand gossip that some players are promised ability to get “promoted” mid year, but i've only seen it rarely when there is a significant issue of the other team, injuries, absences, or just weaknesses and not so much because of progresses ability of the kid, unless the club has that approach to development (which infind rare).
