Is it a MUST that you go to Bermuda? Or would you be okay if you get re-routed to another island/port? If there's a hurricane, the ship just changes the itinerary and goes to different ports. You really don't need to worry about hurricanes and cruises unless you're dead set on going to a specific port. If you do get travel insurance, make sure it covers change of itinerary, not just full cancellation. Most insurance I'm familiar with would not refund if the cruise was still happening but just not going to your first choice port.
OP here--thanks, this is good to know. I don't really care which island we go to. My kids are more excited about being on the boat and the Bermuda cruise was easy because it is out of Baltimore and only 5 nights (I don't think we can handle many more nights than that with two young boys)!
I'm the poster with the Bermudian parent. Not sure how easy it would be to "just go to a different port" from Bermuda? If you look on a map, Bermuda is geographically pretty isolated by itself in the Atlantic, about the same latitude as South Carolina. I've never been on a cruise to Bermuda, so I may be wrong, but seems it would be tough to just change ports during a cruise to Bermuda. You may want to check on this.
