My dogs paws seem to be really sensitive to the salt on the road. We don’t have sidewalks - I try to keep him on the grass but sometimes I can’t. I have dog booties for him but they won’t stay on. I tried to walk him today, and he sat in the grass after walking in the street for 5 min, held up his paw and howled. So unfortunately, until the salt is washed away, yard bathroom breaks only.
This is us exactly. Our two dogs love the cold and will play in the yard in snow, but the ice and salt on their paws is a no go. Same thing happened to us yesterday--the sitting. Oh well. At least I feel less guilty for NOT wanting to take them.
Same here. The cold doesn't seem to matter much to my dog but the salt and ice melt chemicals are really hurting him. We are playing LOTS of fetch and tug o war indoors and giving him lots of chewy and puzzle treats to keep him occupied. Walks are brief potty breaks and we're washing his feet as soon as we get indoors.
