I have a friend who did this as well.  She hadn't been drinking either.  She got tangled, tripped, and ended up breaking her wrist (required surgery & pins) and breaking her eye socket/cheekbone.

My cousin tripped going up the 10 concrete stairs into her home while she was carrying her kid.  Her main concern was not dropping the kid or letting him get hurt.  The way she landed caused a broken ankle, 4 broken ribs, and a deep head gash where she smacked the back of her head on the edge of the step.  Her kid was perfectly fine though and actually laughed because he thought it was fun, "again, again" he yelled afterwards.    [/quote]
