armed robbery, strong-arm robbery by force/violence, and assault crimes are lower in Virginia than in Maryland and DC for the same reason it's also lower in most other states, including those with large urban areas - because most states allow concealed carry. Maryland and DC (until recently) do not. Other states with large cities and diverse populations, such as Texas, Georgia and Florida have similar demographics as the DC area, but less of the type of robbery crime that is typically committed in states where people aren't allowed to carry a gun for self defense. It's really not that big of a mystery. Criminals aren't stupid. They understand things like this. Pulling a knife or gun on someone in Georgetown will get you their wallet, cel phone, or car. Pulling a gun on someone 1/2 a mile away in Roslyn might get you killed. They know this.
+1
No. Most of these guys have guns. Your gun does not scare them. Violent crime in Atlanta is absolutely terrible. That's Georgia. Miami? No thank you. Young black guys are going to stick out in Roslyn. They really aren't stupid. It is not unusual to see groups of young black guys in Georgetown. It is unusual in Arlington. I have a young black son that i am sure you would profile. He hangs out in Georgetown, not Roslyn. VA is boring. No one's interested.
Plenty of brown, black, white people in Alexandria and Arlington. I don't buy this argument. NOVA PDs don't profile minorities any more or less than DC or MD. Also I see how H and U streets are more exciting to teenagers but Bethesda and Silver Spring is just as 'boring' as Arlington and Alexandria. but the crime rates are higher in MD. I agree with much better and effective law enforcement and courts in NOVA. In fact MD and DC have consistently fallen behind NOVA in recent years in creating safe neighborhoods.
Are you guys on crack? When I am in Arlington, I don't see a bunch of black people. I'm black. I really don't. If I am in Old Town Alexandria I also don't see a bunch of black people. Especially groups of black boys. They would stand out like sore thumbs.
