Go to EdFest. Open houses are a waste of time.
I found the opposite to be true. I want to see inside the school, take a tour and ask questions. Not stand in a packed line to pick up brochures at a table at Ed Fest. Im trying to find a schedule for Stokes. Nothing on their website and no one responds to emails.
I mostly agree but some are so crowded and the staff so off putting it’s a downer. Case in point: Stokes, CMI. Makes you feel like you won’t ever get in why bother.
CMI parent here, I've done Ed Fest, can you let me know what specifically we can do to improve (or what we may have said to give you that impression) so I/we can do a better job this year?
I think it's just the sheer number of people. You can't really hear anything being said, it's all very overwhelming and you also can't fit into the classroom. Perhaps simply offering them more frequent or limiting numbers would help a lot. It almost feels like it's done on purpose (look how popular we are) - in general not just at CMI. Although I'm sure it's not (now that we're going to a charter I can see that but as a new parent it's intense).
I really value open houses. I attended about 10 when my child was going into PK3. We missed one very popular charter school but put it on our list. We ended getting an offer from that charter and I really wished I had gone to an open house. We were able to get an individual tour and declined the spot. We ended up going with another charter we had visited. I think the tour and open houses really helped our decision.
