Just got back from T+C and was aware of the crime wave from the Trip Advisor forums - despite their incessant deletes to useful threads. I was hyper alert, but completely relaxed at our resort and on the beach. I asked locals about the crime and they all said the same thing - be aware of your surrounding and don't be flashy. The hurricane devastated most of the homes in the underdeveloped parts of the island. You can sense the resentment if you're paying attention. I don't think i'd rent a villa or private home but the resorts all have security. [/quote]
