Not sure before that. Even in the early 1980s it was considered just a step below HYP for college. By the early 1990s the concept of HYPSM existed. Engineering and technology became very prominence that is why Stanford and MIT rose in prominence with it because HYP were not that strong in these fields. It would be very hard for other schools to develop similar advantages in brand new academic fields. [/quote]
