I think the article strains because it doesn't want to admit that the Revenge of the Nerds scenarios are about sex and not about power.
I had a thought similar to that as well. Seems like there was a period where I heard "rape is about power, not sex" quite a bit. Lately, I haven't been hearing that. That said, I don't know if what I happen to read or hear is at all representative of the scholarly work on the subject.
It definitely is about pure sex some of the time. I think we need to acknowledge it, because we need to be able to address that. There are men out there who think "Well, I'm just really turned on, I'm trying to be mean/cruel". They aren't into the whole "girl is scared" thing, they just really, really want to have sex with her. So in their mind- well, it's not like they're some monster, power hungry rapist! The fact is many rapists are purely turned on and motivated by sex, and rape is the way to get that sex. We need to acknowledge that and teach men- it doesn't matter- it's still unacceptable. We don't have to villainize the motives because the act itself is abhorrent enough to merit our full disapproval and revulsion- REGARDLESS of motive.
