I went there and taught there.  Harvard it is not, but the students are pretty good.  The OOS kids are perhaps a bit better on average (since none of them come from small towns with few opportunities), but the cream of the student population is definitely Wisconsin born and bread.[/quote]

UVA is much smaller so can be more selective with its instate applicants. UMD is still pretty low on OOS and still has a relatively high admit rate compared to UVA and Michigan (comparable to Wisconsin though?) so yes. DC is at Michigan and even with low admit rates DC says there is a noticeable difference between instate and OOS (not for everyone of course but on balance). The OOS pool is 40-50% though. [/quote]
