Kids are lucky to have grandparents in their lives, and until recently kids grew up in multigenerational households. But the content of the phone call and asking about what presents they got on a daily basis is not normal. Maybe you can gently redirect her by suggesting she ask about: school/friends/hobbies/what they ate etc. She just may be clueless.
