Someone really needs to crunch those numbers, but it looks like Asians have the lowest rates, and the white rate is one-half the Hispanic rate and one-tenth the black rate.
My hunch is that it is correlated with income. Asians in the U.S. have higher incomes than whites. And condoms are expensive, funding has been severely cut for free condoms. They are really only given out free at Planned Parenthood and college health centers. They are no longer in public schools or just generally free in convenient locations. If you're not regularly on a college campus or a nearby free health clinic, you're probably not near free condoms.
Oh pulease. So the higher rates of STDs among black people are because, although they want to practice safe sex, they just can't afford the condoms? Safe sex is only for higher income people, like Asians? Because condoms are sooo expensive and free condoms are sooo hard to obtain? Do I have that right? Baltimore MD has the highest per capita rate of STDs in the nation. Care to guess why? Break those figures down by race and you have your answer. Besides condoms, or other safe sex practices, the best way I know to prevent getting a STD is to not have sex with people with STDs. Yeah it's oversimplified, I know and it involves a lot of trust. But it's always worked for me. I'll make sweeping judgments about a whole race of people too and not have sex with anyone from a group where the STD rate is 10X higher than other groups. Same goes for certain lifestyles and sexual histories. Good judgement about your sex partners is even more important than using condoms IMHO. If I really thought a sex partner might have a good chance of having a STD, I wouldn't use a condom. I just wouldn't have sex with that person. I know, crazy, right?
