hi its me OP again. Really struggling with this, my kids will never understand the vet called me twice this week telling me to do this yet I cannot seem to bring myself to make this decision. I am terribly torn and just so afraid of regretting this, I don't want to feel responsible for his death. Please help me try and figure this out it is tearing me apart morning noon and night.
This is part of owning a pet. It is your responsibility to suck it up and do the right thing for your animal. Your dog is suffering, and your vet is probably completely horrified with your selfishness. Don't make it about your feelings. It isn't about you. It's about your dog and your dog's pain. Your dog is depending on you to do him the kindness of ending his misery and you are letting him down. If you cannot bear to make this decision, you should not have gotten a pet. Please don't get another dog until you can come to terms with this. 95% of pet ownership is wonderful but unfortunately this is part of the package.
If I were your vet my next call would be to report you for animal abuse.
Stop being so insenstive what a prick. It is a heart wrenching decision but the right thing which I am sure you know is to do this, do it out of love for him/her. I am assuming your dog has given you years of happiness and companionship- return the favor and let him go in peace and with dignity. You will never regret giving him/her that as a final gift. I know its hard, best of luck.
