In addition, the Virginia state schools are great schools for a reasonable cost, so many times those schools are the smartest choice for kids so they can start their adult lives without debt. I know a number of kids who went to TJ, the oldest of whom graduated in 2003, and they're all doing great and think their years at TJ were well spent and helped to set them up for success in college and grad school.
