Did your daughter do Girl Scouts? That's also one to check.
This. My DD was a counselor for three summers recently and loved it. Your DD will need to research camps, though--different GS camps have different needs and rules, and even at one campsite there can be several different, and differently administered, camps over one summer. But that's actually an advantage; instead of an entire summer your DD possibly could do one two-week camp, or a one-week camp only, some camps have different emphases or are aimed at different groups of kids, etc. She will need to register as a Girl Scout, I'm sure, but that's simple to do. Contact GSCNC (Girl Scout Council of the National Capital) if you're starting from scratch and ask for the department that oversees summer camps. Most counsellors and CITs (though we did not have the term CIT at our GS camp; different camps use their own terms) tend to be girls who have been campers themselves in the past but I would not let that deter your DD from asking about it! www.gscnc.org
