I don't want to be that person, I really don't but is anyone else underwhelmed by the qualifications of these new principals? And most of it is a game of shuffleboard...moving people from one crappy school to the next.
I think it's good when an AP moves up to Principal at a different school. That's how we got ours and it has been great. She brought a lot of DCPS-specific knowledge and relationships. An outsider would have had a much steeper learning curve.
I agree. We are Hardy bound this fall and I'm pretty thrilled with the hire of Mr. Cooke. He was the unanimous, top pick for the selection panel. Having sat on previous principal panels that felt perfunctory and lacking in weight, the Chancellor actually listened and gave us what we asked for. I would much rather have someone with some real DCPS experience rather than some Harvard grad that we bring in from Boston or Chicago. Having a new leader who already has some understanding of the system, the city's culture, the tensions that exist, the hurdles, the opportunities, etc. is very valuable. Mr. Cooke paid his dues at Eastern, has some legit experience in Brooklyn and has also taught in the classroom. He's going to be great.
