We just sold our starter house here, and are looking for something bigger in the "better" FCPS school districts (Burke, West Springfield, etc) but I kinda love it here and would really prefer to spend our $740 on this beauty:

rather than some boring Mcmansion that's going to add 30+ minutes to my SO's commute.

But it's hard to get past a GS score of 2, even if you don't buy into the reductive self fulfilling prophecy of Great Schools.

Wow, thanks for bringing up Wakefield.  Have you seen the new school?  GORGEOUS. Wakefield also has a beautiful new indoor pool and amazing new outdoor tracks and fields.  Bet you can't say that about your "perfect" Fairfax County School - especially since all of your teachers are leaving for abutting counties that (get this) actually pay a living wage. [/quote]

APS should have expanded the capacity at its schools, not built a few trophy schools like Wakefield where the student performance actually dropped after the students moved into the new building.  It's not even at the TC Williams level now, much less the level of every school in FCPS besides Mount Vernon. You couldn't pay me to send my kid there, and it's only going to get worse with more overcrowding and affordable housing units planned for South Arlington. [/quote]
