I agree with #2 only.  [b]Police shouldn't be using racial profiling to stop "suspected illegal immigrants".[/b]  How can you tell just by looking whether someone is one?

#1 - only if they do so with *everyone* they stop and not just those with brown skin and/or with accents

One of the issues I have with your statement, is that if those individuals are acting suspiciously enough for police to stop them, will liberals make their definition of #1 so lenient that #1 is a constant cry of outrage, not allowing officers to effectively do their jobs?[/quote]
The way #2 reads is that the cops can stop anyone for the suspicion of being an illegal immigrant.  #1 is what you are referring to - stopping someone for some other suspicious activity.  Like I stated, if they stop someone for suspicious activity (having brown skin and hanging out in front of a home depot is not suspicious activity), and check *everyone* they stop for ID then that's fine. But, you have to be careful, because there have been cases where the state passed such laws, and law enforcement were stopping and detaining business folks from other countries.

There was that one case in the south where they detained a Japanese national, and another case, German national.  They were businesses execs from those countries that had car manufacturing plants in that state.  It was bad for businesses, so the county (or state, can't remember) had to change those laws because it was quite an embarrassement.  And what about tourists?

Given that this area has tons of embassy and other foreign workers, it would be a nightmare if they stopped and detained anyone who wasn't carrying some kind of ID that showed they had legal resident status.  People don't carry around their visas.  When I go travel to certain countries, I leave my passport in the hotel safe.

Agree. If you're in favor of #2, you're in favor of Stop and Frisk, which is a clear violation of the 4th amendment and American values. [/quote]
