I have teenagers and am not working much anymore (occasional contract work). I must admit my life is completely luxurious. I feel guilty, but not guilty enough to look for a job that would prevent me from being available to drive my kids to and from school and to spend every afternoon and evening with them, taking them to activities and helping them with homework. Fortunately my husband also sees value in that. I do my own housework, but it is not enough to fill all of those school day hours -- so I do some volunteering, and I have taken up some hobbies. I am very lucky!
Part of me feels like it's even more important to stay home with tweens/teens to do just what you do. My mom was a SAHM and my dad own businesses and worked from 8-3 and then would come to every single one of mine or my brother's games, etc. I never appreciated it then, but now that I am a mom I see how much it shaped who I am now and how important that time together was. Anyhow, I can 100% see the value in being SAHM when the kids are older. I am a teacher and just going back FT in a few weeks. I will be teaching at the same school as my kids (they are 4 and 5) and I feel like this kind of a schedule will also allow me to be there for them in the afternoons, etc. (My fingers are crossed that it will all work out...)
