Apparently not so much any more.  Colon cancer rates have been on a real upswing among those under 50.  There's [b]even been talk[/b] of lowering the age for that initial colonoscopy from 50 to 40.  [/quote]

I have a history of CRC on my mom's side....her dad died of mCRC at age 73 and she had polyps at 45 and still does from time to time.  Sooooooo.....I went and got my first screening colonoscopy at age 34, and am getting my 5-year next spring at 39.  Why wait?!  My mom would be dead by now without screening.

Genetics is a big factor, and the diet people eat in this country doesn't help things.  Younger cases absolutely do happen, and the outcomes can be worse because doctors aren't suspecting CRC and don't follow that diagnostic path until its too late.  When found early, outcomes are much, much better.  So, know your risk, and be aggressive in seeking treatment if you have any symptoms.  Don't be like some people and let doctors tell you for 3 years that the blood in your stool is from hemorrhoids until they've ruled out worse things!

Then again...you can only do so much.  Metro can still manage to kill you some way regardless....[/quote]
