How long - about 6 weeks, give or take.

I don't want to give too many details but I didn't regret it right away.  I believe I was harboring some resentment that I didn't even realize I had.  Over time, I came to realize how much I would lose in my wife and children if it ever came out.  Once I got to that place, guilt and shame began eating at me.  Eventually, I did something that caused my wife to figure things out, years after the affair and after it had ended.  Guilt and shame multiplied by a thousand as everyone knew our business and I wasn't sure if I would lose those things most important to me.  I picked a tree just outside the wall of our backyard where I'd sit down and take care of things.  I can still picture that tree in my mind very vividly today.

That's a place I don't ever want to go back to and don't recommend to anyone ...[/quote]
