NVYLL has fallen apart on the A level because of their refusal to work with travel and NGLL. Teams have to forfeit games all the time. Parents and players are over it. 1/3 of the travel kids are still playing NVYLL. They just play NGLL. I have coached on the A level for the last 5 years in 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. It's incredibly frustrating and NVYLL leadership doesn't seem to care. Now their league has fallen apart. I agree that our program used to have 3 or 4 teams on each level. Now we have 1 7/8 team and 2 5/6 teams. That NVYLL has no 7/8 A league and just 4 teams in the 5/6 A league is crazy.
There used to be AAA/AA/A levels followed by B and C levels. Now there is not even one A team at 7/8 feeding into high schools. Those who had kids playing back 5-10 years ago know how competitive the 7/8AAA teams were. They would beat many high school varsity teams now. The numbers playing club are falling off also. NGLL teams are not filling the spots vacated by those leaving NVYLL. When kids don’t have access to a local rec program at a young age they are not likely to jump right into club, they’re more likely just not going to play the sport. We are seeing the impact this is all having on public school lacrosse now.
