I am eligible for up to 20k, and I am just now finishing an associate's degree this semester. I had no idea what I was doing, so I stopped because I was scared of the debt. I have learning disabilities and didn't know how to advocate for myself. I left college more than 13 years ago, but surprisingly, I had 20k in debt even though it was so long ago. People with a 4-year degree would have 40k. I didn't have parents pushing me one way or the other, but all my friends in high school went on to college. My parents didn't sit me down and say college wasn't right for me since I would need a lot of remedial coursework. I'm happy I finally pursued my AA degree. I am a teaching assistant
I am a teaching assistant at a special needs school now, and I am happy. My job doesn't pay anything to brag about but I found a way to use my talents. We need more direction during the high school years. I thought about trade school but that also requires skill as well. I struggle with math. It would be very, very hard for me to fulfill the math for a bachelor's degree. I know because I have been trying for years. It's unfortunate, but such is life. My spouse makes a high income so we are okay.
