Looking at the maps, this would be easier if the studies weren’t separated. Avenel goes to Seven Locks ES but it’s surrounded by Carderock which goes to Whitman. Makes more sense to do that.

The northwest part of Churchill goes to Potomac ES. It’s roughly the same distance/time from that area to Wootton or Churchill about 15 minutes each way for either school. Probably closer to Wootton. Not sure if that’s closer to QO.

Then the breaking of Wootton and Churchill is funky due to so much of the southern part of Wayside being 1.5-2 miles from Churchill vs 4 from Wootton. So I’d probably say those items something goes to Whitman and then splitting Wayside and Potomac ES for geography standpoint with the northern half going to Wootton and southern half going to Churchill.

Honestly this would have been better if they adjusted elementary school boundaries. All of Churchill and most of Wootton ES are so under crowded now. Cold Spring is 50+ years old.

I’d move Avenel to Carderock/Whitman, then move a big portion of Wayide to either Potomac ES or Beverly Farms ES. Part of Potomac could move to Seven Locks.

Now Wayside is only consisting of the northern part which originally was supposed to go to Travilah but was added to Wayside since Wootton was overcrowded. Anyway at this point Wayside absorbs Cold Spring and the magnet program and Cold Spring is shut down. Its local population is like 220 kids from what I can tell. No sense paying $25M to build a new ES when all the capacity exists.

That solves Churchill. Then figuring out Wootton would become next challenge.

Part of the issue or why families are unhappy is that Wootton was never an issue.

Current projections show Wootton at 98% capacity.

If they move Wayside over it will likely have them go overcapacity.  But in all of the options proposed, Wootton is predicted to be at 85% capacity.

I agree that first any programs at Churchill that includes out of area students, should probably be moved to another school.  Crown HS and it's feeder schools?

If the option has a neighborhood  moving out of Wootton, then the capacity would be under 98%.  Adding Wayside would probably not make it over capacity.[/quote]
