Only changing it for one birth year would be too “obvious.” So there is a trickle down effect, for however long that lasts. Bethesda boys are now attempting to market “pods” for the u-littles to mask that one is actually A1, A2, A3, and so on. (“X and Y team are pod 1, B and C team are pod 2,” etc).
