He was raised by his grandparents because his parents were not able to (deadbeat father and alcoholic mother).

His children were raised by their grandmother because their parents were too busy to be bothered to raise them.  Vance is not deadbeat, but he was a largely absent father.  His wife was busy with her job, so her mother took a sabbatical to raise their children for them until her clerkship was over.

No wonder he thinks that grandparents will drop everything to parent for absentee parents.  But not every family can do that.  And he is completely clueless about issues that affect real American families, not the groomed pets of billionaire venture capitalists.[/quote]
