The intent of the staging was to cover up what their son did.  The violation with the paint brush, the complicated knots, the strangulation would not be something that a 9 year old kid would do.

It is a good theory.

It makes sense that Burke woke up Patsy who screamed, and Patsy didn't know what to do, so she woke up John.  John fashioned the garrotte.  Patsy wrote the note.
But as to who would have stuck that paint brush into JB.... I can't even imagine.  If the body was moved from where the kids were playing to the wine cellar, and the paint brush had been in the wine cellar, then that suggests one of the parents.  [/quote]
