I also think he's dead because the kids seem to talk about him in the past tense.  I don't think gastric cancer, though, because Randall was researching that like crazy--and if his adopted dad had died of that, I bet he'd already know it all.  I also like the maybe-manic story line with Randall--I wonder if he's manic-depressive, or just has manic tendencies.

I thought this while I watched the second episode. She's trying so hard to lose weight without the scale budging. They elude to her binge eating in the first episode, but it seems like she dieted as a child and has been dieting/exercising for a bit in the second. Wish she'd get her thyroid checked or something![/quote]

I found it odd that she hadn't even considered gastric bypass.  She's not just a little overweight, and it must be insurmountable to try and lose that weight just by dieting and exercising.  Gastric bypass would at least give her a fighting chance.  I love her character, and also her goofy boyfriend.[/quote]
