Did you know that this school costs $34,0000 a year?! I am absolutely floored. $34 thousand dollars a year. For pre-k. What am I missing?!
You're missing nothing . It is not worth $34,000.
DC spends close to $29K per year on each elementary school child. I would say that, dollar for dollar, Beauvoir blows DCPS away.
As an education expert, I feel every child should get the best possible education, but unfortunately thee are deeply entrenched systemic issues in public education that may ale years to solve. I send my children to Beauvoir because it offers much better quality than offered at the public school we're zoned for. Anyone who is versed in early childhood education will tell you that the earliest years are the most formative and important. They are the years in which children's attitude toward learning are developed, as well as a self-image of themselves as learners. Get those things wrong and the damage may be very hard to reverse. If I had to choose between a great private PK-2nd grade education vs. a great private high school education, I would invest in the PK-2nd.
And anyone who is versed in psychology will tell you that those characteristics are formed at home, not at school. A "bad" school can be overcome by a loving, well-led home. The reverse is not true.
From personal experience, you are way off. I learned to hate to school in elementary school. My parents were great, supportive, etc. It was the school. I do not want that for my child. You are way off base.
