I have Florida tags, and I am not changing them. I pull my car right into my parking space in the back of my DC house. I pick my kid up in my SUV in a DCUM HRCS. Suck it.
Florida tags, hmm. So at a minimum you're violating DC law and committing insurance fraud. Perhaps you're also falsely using a Florida address to evade state income taxes.
Schools are funded by property taxes. I own a home in DC, and I pay my taxes. Hmm that. DC car registration is what, roughly $100-200 for two years. You cheat DC government out of more than that every year you lie on your taxes.
You're failing to account for the 6% excise tax (based on fair market value) that must be paid to title a vehicle in DC.
Not to mention that when people who live here don't register their cars here, they're effectively not included in the insurance pool. This means that your insurance rates go up because you're doing the honest thing and registering your vehicle in DC, because accidents, auto theft and damage are higher in the city, while others who are insured get to free ride with lower rates from somewhere else.
