Everyone did you think about the teachers, administration, food service workers, custodians, food deliveries, security ect. not able to get to the schools. Come on people think about everyday life in D.C. We have problems getting to work on a normal day.
Oh, the humanity! If DCPS can't overcome the challenges of a Papal visit then we really are not deserving of being the Nation's Capital. A few roads are being closed in the vicinity of the Basilica, White House, Capitol, Naval Observatory and a couple of other locations. Mass transit will be running. Thousands of federal workers won't be reporting do as to take stress off the system. People will be delayed and inconvenienced. Life as we know it will not end. Take a vacation day and stay home if dealing with minor adversity is not your thing.
It's not minor adversity, it's major.
no, it's not. the schools immediately affected are closed. teachers, administrators, food service workers, custodians, food deliveries, security etc. are adults with a job and they are expected to be able to get organized for a one time event like this, taking the day off if they can, leaving home at 5am if they need to or do whatever they have to do their jobs. the principal at my kids' school live over 100 mile from DC and commute every day to school, summer, fall, winder and spring, including through bad weather (unless the school is closed). it is called being a responsible adult and dealing with your life. do you think that doctors and nurses working at Children's hospital or Washington Hospital Center will not go to work during the papal visit? the website of Children's invite parents of kids who have a doctor's app during the papal visit to be mindful of the road closure and plan accordingly, leaving plenty for time for the visit. appointments were not canceled for those days. please, enough with this nonsense.
