Again, you are cherry-picking the numbers. Why you would look at the five year average for whites and hispanics at both schools but then circle back to the one year score for black students at Yorktown? Fourteen students in a single sitting is too small of a sample size to make generalizations. Yorktown's 5 year average for black students is actually 25 points higher than WL's, and and the five year average for both Asian and Hispanic kids are also higher at Yorktown -- significantly higher, in fact (50 and 80 points higher). The only group where WL performs higher over the long term is white students, and I have no doubt that if the high achieving out of boundary white students who attend WL's IB program were removed the white scores would also be lower. Clearly the general student body at Yorktown performs more highly than the one at WL,
Do you have any idea how racist you sound? You seem to lack some self-awareness.
Oh no, they're not being racist because DATA.
What Yorktown lady wants to say is they are the best because they are the whitest. It's the undertone of all of her posts. The teachers and administrators are of the same quality at both HS.
Um, I'm not a lady. I'm a man. And I haven't written all the "pro-Yorktown" posts. I'm not being racist. I'm just looking at the facts and the data. The FACT is the WL started the IB program as part of an effort to encourage high achieving (read white) kids from throughout the county to attend WL. And the DATA shows that it's working. I personally know several high achieving white kids in the Yorktown district who attend WL for the IB program and would not -- actually, could not -- attend WL without the program. I also never suggested that Yorktown is the best because it's the whitest. In fact, I said that Yorktown's MINORITIES perform better than anywhere else in the county, while conceding that the white kids at WL on average do slightly better. But Yorktown's cohort of white, high achieving students is much larger, and my hunch is that the larger cohort is lifting the minorities there. All the more reason why WL needs to continue to work hard to maintain its white population.
That makes sense, particularly since Arlington has no track record of attracting significant numbers of high-performing Asian students like Montgomery or Fairfax Counties.
They won't pay a million dollars for an older, small home. They don't like " charm". They don't see value in that. Also, slim odds of TJ placement from Arlington. Different priorities.
