Hey OP, I thought of you yesterday when I was volunteering at my kids' school - I had to accompany kids to their classroom who'd forgotten their lunch boxes. One kid pulled out a couple of baggies and a juice from her backpack - either she didn't have a sack/lunchbox or she didn't understand that she was supposed to be buying that those were for aftercare. Is it possible that your child is confused about how to manage the food she's bringing? Fwiw, the kid I saw yesterday had only fruit in the baggies; no Oreos. Hopefully that passes muster with the food Nazi moms on this thread. Of course when the lunchroom staff realized, they arranged to get her a hot meal, on the presumption that no parent would deliberately send just a few grapes for their kids' lunch. Perhaps they should read this thread.
This is how every school operates. If the lunchroom monitors determine that a child doesn't have enough food, they give her a lunch. This is the law in every public school in the country. Note that the teachers rarely eat with the children so they have no idea who is eating what on any given day.
